Bryan Clay

Bryan Clay is a gold medal decathlete who was born in Austin, Texas and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended James B. Castle High School (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and graduated in 1998. During high school, he competed in track and field. He then attended Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, California, where he competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2003.

Clay’s athletic career took off in college, winning an intercollegiate athletics title in 2000 and the U.S. Championship two years later. He received a silver medal in the decathlon event inAthens in 2004 and won the decathlon at the 2005 World Championship in Helsinki. In 2008 he won the World Indoor Championship Heptathlon and put up the best score of his life (8,832) in trials for the 2008 Beijing games. To top off this banner year, Clay clinched the gold medal in the Decathlon event at the 2008 games in Bejing, earning him the “World’s Greatest Athlete” title. His victory margin of 240 points was the largest since 1972.

Clay also wants to make a difference in the world and has established the Bryan Clay Foundation that maintains the motto "Building Champions, Changing Lives." Through his foundation he provides scholarships to give underprivileged students the opportunity to change their lives and futures. It also provides high school physical education departments with equipment and improved facilities. Bryan is married to Sarah, who he met at Azusa Pacific, and they have two young children.
